The women's basketball team put together a 23-point fourth quarter as part of a furious comeback effort, but ultimately fell short 55-46 vs Genesee CC on Saturday.
SUNY Broome entered the contest with a 3-8 record and a 2-2 mark in conference play while the Cougars owned a 5-7 record and were 0-4 in conference.
What was anticipated to be a competitive matchup began with a one-sided first quarter as Genesee outscored SUNY Broome 15-4 through one period of play. The Hornets trailed 27-15 at the half. Genesee built upon its advantage in the third quarter by doubling up SUNY Broome 16-8, taking a 43-23 lead into the fourth.
SUNY Broome exercised a furious rally in the final quarter, totaling 23 points and outscoring the Cougars by 11. However, the Hornets ran out of time and could not pull off the come-from-behind win despite scoring as many points in the fourth quarter as they had in the first three quarters combined.
Nnyala Stark led the way for SUNY Broome, notching a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds on 7-8 shooting from the free throw line. Adrianna Finta added eight points and eight rebounds and was 6-6 from the free throw line. Khadhija Randall had five points, six rebounds, and five steals.
The Hornets shot a pristine 92.9% (13-14) at the charity stripe but were held to respective marks of 21.1% (15-71) and 20% (2-10) from the field and three-point line.
