Second Quarter Hurts Women's Basketball In Loss To Mohawk Valley

The women's basketball team was outscored 27-6 in the second quarter by the visiting Hawks in an 80-51 loss to Mohawk Valley CC on Saturday.
Aside from the 21-point disparity in the second, the Hornets were within five points or less of the Hawks during all three other quarters. Mohawk Valley sandwiched its 21-point advantage in the second between advantages of five, two, and one in the first, third, and fourth quarters.
After trailing just 20-15 at the end of the first, SUNY Broome went into the halftime break with a 47-21 deficit. The Hornets could not come back from the deficit in the second half, even though the second half was much more evenly-matched in terms of total scoring.
SUNY Broome was led in scoring by Adrianna Finta with 22 points, including nine points from three-point range. She added five assists and four rebounds. Maggie Burlison contributed nine points and grabbed seven rebounds. Nnyala Stark also flirted with a double-double, scoring eight points and pulling down seven rebounds. Zephora Brouillette led the team with nine rebounds.
Julia Deyo scored five points off the Hornets' bench while Riley McNamara added four.
SUNY Broome fell to 1-5 on the season with the loss.
