Reis Jr. Hits For Cycle In Split At Fulton-Montgomery

After losing the first contest 14-4 in five innings, the Hornets earned a split by taking the second game behind Reis Jr.'s monster performance.
SUNY Broome moved to 8-22 on the season with the split.
Game 1: SUNY Broome 4, Fulton-Montgomery 14
Fulton-Montgomery jumped ahead to a 3-0 lead after the first two innings. SUNY Broome tied it all up with a 3-run top of the 3rd, but then the Raiders answered with three runs in the 4th and eight more in the 5th. The Hornets trailed just 6-4 going into the bottom of the 5th, but the Raiders' explosion for eight runs allowed them to walk it off and end the game early with the 10-run advantage.
Fulton-Montgomery tallied 11 hits and the Hornets were limited to five.
Brady Mazur got the starting nod on the bump and allowed two unearned runs in the first inning. Then Luke Grassi came in for the next 3.1 innings, but he allowed six earned runs and walked five batters en route to being tagged with the loss. Ethan Flagg was roughed up for another six runs over 1/3 of an inning. Brady Blair came in with two outs in the 5th and faced just one batter, allowing the walk-off hit which plated three runs and brought the score to 14-4.
Kaiden Cannistra had a productive game out of the leadoff spot by collecting two of the Hornets' five hits. He also scored a run. Darlyn De Los Angeles had a hit, drew a walk, drove in two runs, and scored one. Carmelo Alessandro and Bailey O'Connor also had a hit. Santino Michitti was credited with an RBI on a sacrifice fly.
Alessandro and Jacob Falero stole two bases while Cannistra stole one.
Game 2: SUNY Broome 14, Fulton-Montgomery 6
Game two produced a similar score to game one, except the fortunes were reversed. After the Raiders posted 14 runs in game one, SUNY Broome posted 14 runs in the second game and erupted for 15 hits.
SUNY Broome took a 9-0 lead into the bottom of the 4th before the Raiders moved closer with three runs. The Hornets had an immediate answer of four runs in the top of the 5th to go back up 13-3. Fulton-Montgomery scored one in the bottom of the 5th to keep the game alive, and then brought the deficit to 13-6 with two runs in the 6th. But the Hornets added an insurance run in the top of the 7th and shut the door on the Raiders in the bottom half.
Reis Jr. was the driving force behind the Hornets' win as he hit for the cycle by notching a single, double, triple, and home run. He also drew a walk and scored four runs. He was credited with four RBI. His homer was a 3-run shot in the 1st, then he had an RBI triple in the 3rd, then doubled in the 5th, and hit his single in the 7th.
Michitti also wowed with a 4-hit performance as both he and Reis Jr. were 4-4 in the game. Michitti doubled and hit a sac fly, scored three runs, and got credited with two RBI.
Alessandro continued his productive day by going 1-3 with a double, two walks, a run, and two RBI. Peter Cruz had two hits and an RBI. Falero also had two hits, and scored two runs. De Los Angeles had a hit and scored two runs. Landon Hepditch doubled and had an RBI.
All in all, the Hornets finished the game with seven extra-base hits and walked more times (5) than struck out (4). Alessandro added three stolen bases while Reis Jr. had two and Falero had one.
Cruz pitched an effective 6.0 innings, allowing four earned runs and walking three while striking out four. Earning the win, he improved his record to 4-2. Reis Jr. added to his excellent day by pitching a scoreless final inning to close out the game.
