After a scoreless first inning, Jefferson used a hit by pitch and two singles to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the 2nd. The score remained 2-0 until SUNY Broome went ahead 3-2 in the bottom of the 5th. The half-inning started with a triple, and then an error, a hit by pitch, a single, a sacrifice fly, and another single led to three SUNY Broome runs. A scoreless sixth inning set up a chance for the Hornets to close out the game in the top of the 7th.
After getting a quick first out, an error extended the inning and put a runner on base. The next Jefferson batter got out, but a line drive to the outfield on the ensuing at-bat tied the game at 3-3. The next batter hit a 2-run home run to move the Cannoneers ahead 5-3.
