Despite trailing well into the second half, SUNY Broome rallied to defeat Clinton CC in a thrilling 89-84 decision on January 31.
SUNY Broome started the game in an early hole and was outshot by the Cougars for a majority of the contest. For the game, Clinton converted at a clip of 50.8% from the field. A bit of a SUNY Broome rally at the end of the first half trimmed the deficit to a manageable five points at the half.
The Hornets continued to claw back against a moderate deficit for much of the second half as well. The final 10 minutes of play were when SUNY Broome began to take over, ultimately outscoring the Cougars by 10 in the second half. The Hornets were sent to the foul line often down the stretch and managed to convert enough attempts to put the game away. SUNY Broome made 28 of its 47 free throw attempts on the day (59.6%).
Five Hornets reached double digits in scoring in the tight win. Dejon Williams led with 17 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Tyrell Davender was just behind with 16 points, six rebounds, and three assists off the bench. Braeden Davis was 4-9 from three-point range to add another 13 in Hornets' bench points. Xavier Thomas-Davis flirted with a double-double with 11 points and seven rebounds, adding four blocks. Christopher Zielewicz chipped in 10 points and five rebounds.
