After digging an early 11-3 hole, SUNY Broome responded well and caught fire scoring the ball in the first half to take a 43-32 lead at halftime. The Hornets continued to lead comfortably for much of the second half as well, until the Lakers turned on a furious comeback in the last few minutes of regulation.
After Finger Lakes tied the game late, and SUNY Broome was unable to pull back ahead, the Hornets blocked a game-winning attempt from Finger Lakes just inside the halfcourt line as regulation expired.
The two teams remained even throughout the overtime period, with Finger Lakes holding a two-point advantage with less than 20 seconds to go. On the ensuing SUNY Broome possession, Zielewicz knocked down a three-pointer from the corner to go up 81-80. On the ensuing Finger Lakes possession, the Lakers could not get off a shot in time and the Hornets survived at home.
Zielewicz was the game's leading scorer with 29 points, going 8-18 from three-point range. Dejon Williams added 24 points and 17 rebounds. Xavier Thomas-Davis had six points, eight rebounds, two steals, and three blocks.
SUNY Broome improved to 4-7 with the win.
