After a rocky start on the road the women's soccer team got a big win Monday afternoon at home in a decisive 7-0 victory against Columbia-Greene CC. Arianna Michitti started the scoring for Broome with her first of four goals on the day 4:58 into the match. Michitti gathered in a ball on the 18-yard line, dribbled by a defender and buried the shot to get the Hornets started. The scoring continued when Dana Stepp got the first of her three goals, courtesy of a cross at the top of the box by Quinn Miller. Not quite five minutes later Stepp got her second, beating the Twins goalkeeper on a breakaway. The scoring continued as Michitti got two more, in the 19th and the 30th minute, the first on a breakaway and the second via a beautiful strike from the 18.
Broome ended the half with a 5-0 lead before adding two more goals in the second. Michitti and Stepp each added a goal in the second half to round out the scoring for the host team. Michitti's four goals and Stepp's hat trick were the culmination of fine ball work and excellent defense. The Hornets recorded their first win and first shutout of the season due in large part to the defensive effort creating the offense for Broome.
The women are in action again this Wednesday at 4:00 PM in Watertown for a MSAC contest against Jefferson CC, their third match in the last five days.
