The women's soccer team traveled to Niagara CCC on Saturday for a Region III matchup in Sanborn and came home with a 3-3 tie after a double overtime match. The first half was back and forth with the Hornets taking a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute on a goal by Dana Stepp assisted by Quinn Miller. Miller got behind the Thunderwolves defense and dropped a pass to Stepp who promptly netted it. That was all the scoring the first half would see.
Heading into the second half a Hornets heads up play resulted in a double assisted goal by Arianna Michitti. Grace Cawley got up-field from the middle defensive position and slid a diagonal pass to Alisa Cherednichenko who one touched it to Michitti for the finish. Relaxing with a two goal lead, Broome gave up two quick scores from the host team to knot the match at 2-2. In the 84th minute Stepp picked up her second goal when she beat several defenders with adept ball handling to put the Hornets up 3-2 only to give it back in the 86th minute to end regulation in a 3-3 tie.
The Hornets and the Thunderwolves played two overtimes without a goal despite the Hornets dominating both.
Broome will get a chance to pick up their first win of the young season this Monday at Alumni Field against Columbia-Greene CC scheduled for a 4:00 PM start.
