Women Finish As Runner-Up At Region III Championships
In just its fourth year as an established program, the women's track and field team took home its third Region III plaque with the 2nd place finish on Saturday.

The women have now been the Regional Champion (1st place) twice and Regional Runner-Up (2nd place) once.
Khala Gray-Motto led the team by placing in the top 5 in all four of her events, and even earning a Nationals qualification in one of them. Gray-Motto won the 200 meter by running a 26.70, breaking the SUNY Broome program record in the event. This 1st place time also qualified her for Nationals. Additionally, she placed 2nd overall in a very close 100 meter race with a time of 12.96 seconds. She then jumped 4.91 meters to take 2nd place in the long jump and threw 18.11 meters in the javelin to place 5th overall.
Fellow jumper Carly Hein was also a key part in the team's success, taking 1st place in two events. She won both the triple jump and the long jump. She jumped 9.93 meters in the triple jump and 4.94 meters in the long jump.
Sophomore leader Ava Schiff also had a very successful day, placing 7th or better in five events. She won the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 19.50 seconds. She took 3rd place in the triple jump with a distance of 9.26 meters. She took 5th place in the shot put with a distance of 7.86 meters. She took 6th place in the long jump with a distance of 3.93 meters. She took 7th place in the javelin by throwing 15.89 meters. Two weeks ago in Cortland, Schiff won the heptathlon, which also earned her points toward the Region III Championships.
Gabriella Vazquez and Hannah Sanford took 1st and 2nd place, respectively, in the discus event. After Sanford set the SUNY Broome program record in the event a few weeks ago, Vazquez reclaimed the record over the weekend by throwing 28.85 meters and taking 1st place overall. Sanford's 2nd place finish was thanks to a distance of 27.87 meters. Both Vazquez and Sanford will compete in the discus at Nationals.
Vazquez also threw 7.78 meters in the shot put to earn 6th place.
Riley Precourt had two top-6 finishes and personal bests in her events. She finished 4th in the 400 meter with a time of 1:12.54 and she finished 6th in the 200 meter with a time of 30.54 seconds.
Amber Neumuth also ran the 100 meter in 17.45 seconds and ran the 200 meter in 37.11 seconds.
The Hornets tallied 91 total points to earn their 2nd place finish, edging out 3rd place Mohawk Valley by five points. Full results from the meet can be found here.
Next up, members of the women's track & field team will compete in the NJCAA National Championships in Utica, NY, hosted by Mohawk Valley CC.
