The Lazers, regarded as the #2 team in Region 3 in addition to their #6 national ranking, posed a challenging test for the Hornets.
SUNY Broome was quickly met with heavy attacking pressure from Onondaga, but stayed composed, settling into their shape defensively. Ultimately, Onondaga got on the board in the 38th minute on a penalty kick to take a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, SUNY Broome came out with renewed energy, pushing forward and earning a shot on goal from Adrianna Finta. The Hornets kept their defensive line organized and limited quality chances, but Onondaga extended their lead in the 70th minute with a through ball and breakaway finish.
Despite being outshot 22-1, SUNY Broome showcased resilience and discipline throughout the match. Goalkeeper Madeline Hyzer recorded 15 saves, protecting the net and helping keep the Hornets in the game.
The Hornets will return home to Alumni Field on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. to host SUNY ESF in a match during which the team's sophomores will be recognized.
