Hornets Come Up Big In Second Half

The men's soccer team came back in the second half with four goals to edge Jefferson CC 4-3 in Watertown on Wednesday afternoon. Jefferson (2-4-1) opened up the scoring with the first and second goal of the match, putting their lead at 2-0 going into half. Broome responded with an early second half goal when Luke Day crossed a ball to Lisberto Calvo who tucked the ball away to bring the Hornets (9-0) within one. The visitors scored again moments later when Damian Rutan crossed the ball from the corner of the box to the on-rushing Day for the tie. The Hornets scored again five minutes later when Mark Lee gave a long pass to Calvo for his second goal of the game and the 3-2 lead. The fourth goal came in the 63rd minute when Day shot the ball off the keeper and Calvo scored the rebound to make it 4-2. The Cannoneers got a goal back to make it a one point match but could not get any closer. Tyler Elliott had 6 saves in net to preserve his unbeaten streak.

The Hornets return home this Saturday for a matchup of two of the top ten teams in the country scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. Broome is currently ranked 10th and Herkimer is ranked 4th in the latest NJCAA Division III polls.
